Both FUS and TDP43 are DNA and RNAbinding proteins that shuttle continuously between the nucleus and cytoplasm (Zinszner et al, 1997b; Ayala et al, 2008) and are involved in multiple steps of gene expression, such as transcriptional regulation, premRNA splicing and microRNA processing (Buratti and Baralle, 2008; LagierTourenne and Cleveland, 2009).
